Wow, I am thrilled to see this website. I have been researching this for several years, have written a paper that has been sent out all over, and have tried with the help of my father to get the word out about the infiltration into our denomination. It sadens me that such a holiness church has begun to fall into the web and lies of Satan. I too have been a member of the Nazarene Church most of my life. I am the NYI President at my church and have been for several years. The youth district functions are where I first encountered the emergent/emerging teachings.
This started an adventure with my father to get the word out to our District and General Superintendents as to what is being accepted and embraced into our denomination. We too have been pretty much met with shrugged shoulders. My husband and I have not left our local church since we attend one of the few good Nazarene Churches still out there. We have a great Pastor who preached from God's Word! Thank you for what you are doing. I will be praying that God uses this site to open more eyes to what is going on in our world and denomination.

Tim, thank the Lord for this website! Most of my life I have been a member of the Church of the Nazarene. My family and I were song evangelist's and sang in PA., VA., District of Columbia, W.VA., Ohio, Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. I was privileged to see the glory of God come upon the services and people ran to the altars weeping their way to Jesus! I attended Trevecca Nazarene College before spiritual formation was taught and was part of a great revival on that campus. Today, our young people in our Nazarene Universities are being trained in contemplative spirituality and spiritual formation and are coming out spiritual directors to deceive their congregations. God help us to have a spirit of discernment. There are wolves in sheep's clothing devouring many in the body of Jesus Christ. More and more of my sisters and brothers are realizing what has come into our denomination and we need to speak out against this emergent movement before it is truly too late. This is heresy! The Word says that there will be a great falling away before Jesus comes for His Bride and I believe that we are witnessing this right now. May the Lord help us to be stong in the strength of the Lord and after doing all that we can do, to stand!

Let me know when you are finished with the DVD. We recently left the Nazarene denomination after being a part of it for 24 years. Two of our children went to Nazarene universities. We tried to expose what was taking place with the infiltration of emergent teachings in the denomination, but were met with shrugged shoulders for the most part.
I still pray for our former church and denomination.
This has been a very sad experience for us.

Tim, I am an 18 year old student who has felt the call to ministry. I have grown up in the Nazarene church, and don't plan on leaving. I was shown the emergent church by a co-worker as a warning. Since then, I have studied, and been extremely scared for my future, and the future of all the other students. I am planning on going to Northwest Nazarene University, but have been concerned by the fact that the so called teachers there allowed people like Brian McLaren to come into their school, and throw these false teachings at the students, who have been called by God to serve. This truly is a danger to my younger generation, and there must be something done before it gets out of hand. Thank you for your help in the fight against these people!

Tim,

I am thankful for your website. It is unreal to me how many of our "leaders" are believing and allowing this new age and emergent stuff into our churches.
What "bible" are they following? I am confident to say that I don't think they are following my Bible, which is the King James Version. God's word says, "I change not". What do these think that means? God help us not to be deceived nor thrown to and fro by every wind of doctrine.
God bless you.

Subject: Emergent church

Dear Grace Nazarene,

We recently received your link and read of your stand against the emergent church movement.  We are sending along our support to you, as we have also taken a stand here in California at our local Nazarene church.

I have grown up in the Nazarene body of believers, attended Mount Vernon Nazarene Univ., and began to raise my family actively participating in Nazarene board leadership, quizzing, music ministries, etc.

But the "Purpose Driven", "Seeker", "Emergent" movement infiltrated our local body and caused many of us who disagree with it to make a choice of either "catching the wave" or finding somewhere else to worship.  After over a year of much prayer, research, and meetings with our Pastor; we followed the Lord's clear leading to remove ourselves from this unbiblical strong influence that was so disheartening.

We currently are attending a community church that openly voices their concerns for this movement.

My husband has spent much time in the research that you are encouraging, and he has put together a Power Point presentation that we gave to our Nazarene Pastor and a portion of the body.  We are sending it along to you as well in hopes that it will aid your efforts in the upcoming General Assembly.

We wish your church was located closer to our family...

God Bless your efforts.  In prayerful support,

Melanie (Sneary) Trowbridge

Tim,

So glad to find this site. I am so concerned for our denomination, but most concerning to me is the shape of our local church. Blackwell Oklahoma First Church of the Nazarene, is located in a small rural town in the "Bible Belt". We will have next year our 100th Aniv. if we're still open. I have been a faithful member since 1986, and have served in most capacities in the church (except pastor) through the years. We have had a strong historical Nazarene influence in our teaching.

But five years ago our pastor of six years felt the call into at least halftime evangelistic ministry. He new we was a growing congregation needing not only a full time pastor but an associate pastor. We were running 160 - 170 on a good Sunday, We had mission projects near and far, our board tithed beyond our doors to other pastors, missions and churches, over paid budgets, had building plans drawn up. But all this came to a screeching halt when our former District Supt. Theron Daniels basically brought us his handpicked person Andy Teston as the only pastor we should consider. We later found out both of their theology is "emergent".

After spending a lot of money to bring our new pastor and family from the mission field in Guam, we were excited. Pastor was, and still is, a likable person to most. So it was evident things weren't right. He wanted to change everything, but after tearing down traditions he wouldn't replace them with anything else. New language was being used in the sermons, terms like "conversation" were used a lot. He would say our Bible translations are not correct, then he would give his translation. Mantras were added to our services. Teaching that we must deconstruct our beliefs in order to have new understandings.

Little by little things got worse. The volunteer music director wasn't doing things just the way he wanted, so he removed her from her position, taking her family and extended family with her. Pastor took jobs away from many people to end up in his own lap, then he complains that no one does anything, it is just that we weren't good enough for him. One thing after another has lead to our current attendance of 32-45 for morning worship. About 6 months ago 8 of 10 board members wanted a vote of the board to bring the question of continuing the church/pastor relationship to the membership.

Our D.S. had just retired and we now have an interim D.S. that lives 2500 miles away. Our zone district rep. met with a group of members and the board to "smooth things over".  He wouldn't listen to our complaints with an open mind, so nothing would happen. For 6 weeks, a year and a half ago, our pastor read and taught from a book from Rob Bell titled "Sex God" for our Sunday night services, the normal attendees were ages 4 - 85 yrs old at that time with about 85 for morning and 50 for evening services. When confronted about the book he said the D.S. thought it would be "appropriate" for the services so he continued.

Pastor wanted to not have Sunday night services for years because he was so exhausted from memorizing the Sunday morning sermon. He got his way, 30 people stopped coming Sunday evening. Our board started to investigate his beliefs in depth, we found on his my-space page his "heroes", and on this list he included our former D.S. and also Brian McLaren. We also found a book he suggested to read, "The Secret Message of Jesus". I bought a copy of this book, and I was shocked at the perverted teaching in this book. I saw the teaching our pastor spouts regularly. I found several books on the Internet that exposed the emergent church teachings and have recognized this in our pastor’s teachings. I am sick!

I have seen how many in the General Church is embracing this, and I am afraid. We as a board accepted as fact that a D.S. would only bring us names of pastors that were Nazarene, we assumed this would be a "given" with our understanding of "Nazarene" doctrine. But were we ever wrong! After driving our church possibly to a grave he finally resigned from our church and the pastoral ministry effective the last day of Feb 09. He will still live in our small town of 8500 and will be a full time police officer. In the last month at our church he canceled all services except Sunday School and Morning worship, he got his way. We have no say-so until he is gone. There is much more I could say, but I am praying for our churches around the world.

I pray Lord, expose those who are leading the flocks astray, separate the goats from the sheep! Expose hidden agendas, and deceitful ways O Lord. Amen.

I'm just a servant in the Lord's army, I'm not well educated, I fix heaters and air conditioners for a living and keep very busy. I am making more time once again for the church, I serve on the board, teach a Sunday School class, run the sound equip, and PowerPoint already, but I'm committing an ADDITIONAL 30 min daily on my knees for our church.

Please pray for us. Thanks Merrill Rickel

Dear Friend and Brother,

Recently found your website and I am encouraged to know that there are others whose heart beats as mine.

Brenda wrote from Cincinnati to say that she and her husband had begun to worship at a local Baptist church because the Nazarene Church had abandoned them.  I would like her to know that there is still a Nazarene church in Cincinnati that contends for the “old paths where is the good way”.  We are conservative and traditional without being either stodgy or legalistic.  The Holy Spirit is our Worship Leader.  You can still sing and shout and testify in the Spirit.  We preach the whole counsel of God.  We love one another and seek to edify the body of Christ and protect the sheep against predatory wolves from without, as well as the sinister concepts ‘emerging’ from within the body of Christ in these Last Days.

“Yet I have left Me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.”

Yours, in pleasing Jesus,

Dennis R. Dean, Assoc. Pastor

Fairfax Nazarene Church
